Couples Counselling: Should We Consider It?

Esther Naayer October 14, 2025

When is the moment a couple would benefit from couples counselling? Many have the belief that couples counselling is for those in a relationship crisis or considering divorce. But, we all experience tension and conflict patterns that are hard to break. Have you ever felt frustrated that you and your partner are having the same argument on repeat? As a couples counsellor, couples often ask me: How do you know if it is time to start couples counselling?

A few thoughts:

  • Are you and your partner finding yourself struggling to communicate?

  • Having the same repetitive fight?

  • Feeling emotionally disconnected?

  • Struggling with physical intimacy?

If so, couples counselling can help you get unstuck and find a new way back to each other. Couples counselling can also support couples that are looking to strengthen their relationship. It helps couples grow together, transition to a new chapter, build intimacy, or navigate a decision together.

Finding a couples counsellor can be overwhelming. It is important to find a couple therapist who specializes in couples therapy. Don’t be afraid to ask their training, background, and education. Ask if the therapist offers a free phone consultation to get to know them. Your relationship deserves the right therapist. If you are interested in knowing more or working together, feel free to reach out for a free phone consultation.
